Beaches
The coast of the entire island is dotted with beaches, some populated by quaint fishing villages, some developed for tourism, and some completely empty and unspoiled. Here are some of the notable beaches of Margarita Island.
Playa El Yaque
Internationally famous for its windsurfing and kite surfing, this beach is also immensely popular with the locals. On weekends, entire families come to picnic here to watch the spectacular display of sailing. The shallow water in the bay makes this an ideal place for swimming.
Playa El Agua
One of the first beaches to be developed on the island, this beach offers everything a vacationer would want, including beachside restaurants and bars, souvenir shops, and great people watching.
Playa Parquito
Situated on the northeastern coast of the island, this relatively new beach attracts the younger, hipper crowd. The onshore wind and waves makes this an ideal place to try one’s hand at wave surfing and boogie boarding. Equipment rentals are easily found right on the beach. Amenities include beachside showers, new restaurants, sun chairs and parasols, and parking.
Playa Manzanillo
Located at the very northern tip of Margarita Island, this spectacular beach is home to some of the best local fishing. Spend a day watching the fishermen empty their nets of the sea’s bounty, and then enjoy the freshest seafood lunch available.
Punta Arenas
As its name implies, this magnificent beach is know for its miles of white, soft sand. Located at the very southwestern tip of the island, in the government protected park of Macanao, this beach is a popular destination for locals and vacationers alike. With its beautiful white sand, sparkling turquoise water, and quaint restaurants dotting the beach, Punta Arenas is the place to spend a luxuriously relaxing day by the sea. |
